Check out the Tour of Hiromi Paper Inc.-- and come to the Hearth Sunday!
If I seem enthusiastic about this place, please know I'm only conveying about 10% of how much I REALLY like it. Picture taken by me.

One of my favorite places on earth is Hiromi Paper Inc. I became aware of the store while visiting my long-distance partner Jennifer Moon in L.A., who conveniently lives about five minutes away (which in L.A. is a miracle).

Since that discovery I've indulged in several experiments and explorations with the papers and notebooks they carry – from using a Fabriano square sketchbook as my everyday journal to collaborating with my friend Karl on choosing bookcloth and prints.

A couple of months ago they agreed to let me come in to the store and shoot video content for my nascent Papermancy YouTube channel – the plan was to get lots of shots, and then narrate over them later. With the help of Jennifer I lugged some video equipment there – and to my surprise, Yoko (who had been my contact there) spontaneously offered to give us a guided tour!

And that's what I present to you here: a video tour of one of the neatest stationery and book craft stores in the country:

Definitely a happy place!

I also highly recommend their blog for some fascinating history of their connections with Japanese paper makers. The store is a fascinating spectrum of whimsical little kitten washi tapes and high-end archival bookbinding supplies...and as I'm in L.A. for a week as I send this, I'm looking forward to going back and seeing what magical things I can find this time.

Which means the Papermancy Guild Hearth will be hosted live from Los Angeles!

Sunday morning, March 22, from 11am-12:30pm Central time, come on over to the Papermancy Discord and let's cozy up to a Springtime virtual fire pit and talk about what your papermancy practice has brought to your life the last few weeks. I'll also be live-demo-ing the "zine-o-file" blizzard fold for a little practical talk, and also showing the results – and lessons learned – from trying to repair my Favorite Notebook.

Hope to see you there! Click here to find out about the event....
