No Hearth Today!
The Papermancy Guild Hearth will be going to a bi-weekly schedule starting today – no, wait, actually starting last week, making this the week that we will stay offline. To be honest, "bi-weekly" has always been a confusing term. Does it mean twice a week? Or twice a month? A quick consult to the Oxford English Dictionary reveals..."done, produced, or occurring every two weeks or twice a week."
Looks like "bi-weekly" is "bi-semantic" (ok, linguistic nerds will correct me by calling it "polysemantic" or the even more NSFW-sounding "polysemous" but I wanted to continue the use of the same prefix. The bi-line, as it were).
Anyway, this decision came into being when I found out that a large percentage of the people who have been regularly attending can't come today.
Normally I wouldn't want that to be the reason for cancelling (I've got no problem sitting online talking to myself) but as an OG podcaster (first episode launched in 2005, oh yeah!) I know that one of the biggest rookie mistakes any content creator can make is to call anything "weekly".
Didn't stop me from making that mistake with the Hearth, but it was for a noble purpose: I really enjoy hanging out with you all.
But at the same time I am still behind on the content that I have meant to put up, and we've got five inches of snow outside in the last day or so, and it will be more likely for me to be able to provide you all with better quality experiences if I pace myself.
I apologize to anyone who was hoping to come today – I really do. The last thing I want to do is disappoint. But perhaps absence will make the heart grow fonder?
Meanwhile, if you need something to do, I really enjoyed this fascinating video by Joanna Wiebe (you can see why by the title). If you do watch it, I'm wondering if you'll notice the same discrepancy between message and execution that I did...
My first thought on seeing this title: "Uh oh. Somebody else got to it first..."
See you next week!
