How the Papermancy Hearth Creates an Oasis for Your Brain
The hearth is a low-pressure inclusive hangout where papermancers and their associates talk, share, explore, laugh, and connect under the very-loosely-held theme of "paper-based thinking, book arts, and tactile cognition." Come if you like, leave when you wish.
It started as show & tell, but it has a greater hidden purpose.
I've been interrupting your usual papermancy newsletters here every other week with something known as a "call-out", something that is meant as a kind of public-service announcement but might sound too much like a commercial:
This Sunday, 11am CST, is another Papermancy Guild Hearth event! We get together online and share our interests, challenges, and projects.

I've been trying for a week to figure out how to explain what, exactly, the Guild Hearth is (or for that matter, what the "Guild" is) and failing. I'm going to make it brief, therefore, and if you have more questions you can either leave them in the comments or (even better) come to the next hearth yourself!
For those of you of the fantasy or D&D persuasion, think of the classic tavern where the adventurers hang out, telling stories of their adventures, showing their magical implements, and coming up with new quests, maps, etc.
For those of you with an eye to history, think about how during the Great Depression, President Roosevelt would hold "fireside chats" to create a space where people could feel a little less alone as they faced the challenges of the time. I'm no FDR, but the times they be a-challengin'.
That's what the Papermancy Hearth is for. It's to create an oasis for an hour and a half where we can gather and talk and not be fracturing our attention for the benefit of malevolent oligarchs. That's not to say we are laser-focused – the neurodivergence in our groups is pretty pervasive! But when we digress, divert, or distract it is for each other, and that makes a difference.
